Abstract

This study was designed to develope the cyber education program to provide the nurses and nursing students with the basic knowledge of arrhythmias, as well as the measures to cope cardiac emergency effectively. It is carried out from September to December in 2001.
This program was constructed on the basis of the Network-Instructional System Design 2.0 model, which focuses on a web-based instructional design with multimedia strategies. This model has several progressive steps, which includes the planning, analysis of the contents, development of the contents, instructional design, development of web-based and multimedia, pilot test, implement, and evaluation.
The URL of this site is http://ekg.redcross.ac.kr, named as the Cyber education program for arrhythmias and cardiac emergency. The contents consisted of 14 chapters providing as follows: anatomy and physiology of heart, basic electrocardiography, normal sinus rhythm, sinus arrhythmias, atrial arrhythmias, junctional arrhythmias, atrioventricular conduction defects, ventricular arrhythmias, bundle branch blocks, acute myocardial infarctions, ventricular hypertrophies, artificial pacemaker, electrical shock therapy, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and test sections of overall contents.
Each chapter was followed by the test strips of arrythmias so that the students can evaluate themselves. To make the learning more interesting, as much animation, graphics, and videos were integrated. Moreover, the interception pages of rest were provided.
In conclusion, this cyber education program will be useful for nurses and health professionals to learn about the arrhythmias and emergency measures for the cardiac patients, which will contribute to improve the clinical practice for the nurses as well as the other health professionals.
